Sure, they look like a healthy snack, but raw sprouts may be the biggest safety concern in the grocery store.
Why are they so risky? Because sprouts are grown different than other vegetables — in an environment ideal for bacteria to grow in.
Sprouts are causing problems as you read this. An outbreak in Germany caused by bacteria on sprouts has killed 30 and sickened more than 3,000, and it’s still ongoing.
The FDA has even issued a warning about them:
"If you purchase a sandwich or salad at a restaurant or delicatessen, check to make sure that raw sprouts have not been added".
So what we’re trying to say is that if you LOVE sprouts…. we’re sorry, but by eating them regularly you’re putting yourself at risk!
