Los Angeles Laker Ronald William Artest, Jr. will soon be no more and you will NEVER guess what he wants to be called now.
The 31-year-old NBA player wants to change his name to…wait for it…wait for it….are you ready?
Metta World Peace!
LOL! Yes, that's no typo. Metta is a Buddhist term meaning loving-kindness and goodwill, so we're assuming his days of brawling on the court are far behind him and never coming back!
It's not official yet, but we hear a judge will consider his request on August 26.
Ron Metta filed a petition in the L.A. County Superior Court AND wants his new last name "World Peace" on the back of his #37 jersey!
He hasn't filled out the NBA paperwork required to change the name on his jersey yet, but the Lakers are aware of the change, as a spokesman has said:
“My understanding is ‘Metta’ will be his first name and ‘World Peace’ will be his last."
Sure, it's a little random, but who doesn't want World Peace?
