New Fitness Class Uses Drumsticks To Pound Away The Calories

Forget bootcamp, Body Pump, and Zumba! Unleash your inner rock star while pounding away the calories in a drumstick-smashing "Pound" class!

West Hollywood's own Cristina Peerenboom and Kirsten Potenza have created the new, unique exercise class that combines music, beats, and body movements for a sweaty good time.

The two fitness connoisseurs came up with the idea while attending a party in the Hollywood Hills where former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum played a set.

After he was done, the women (both former band drummers in high school) began to play their own beats on the drum set and realized they were getting more of a workout than they imagined, as Peerenboom explains:

"We were drumming without a drum stool to accompany the kit and we were squatting over it and realized that the movement of the arms was acting to throw the entire body off and to counteract that, we were having to squeeze … our core muscles."

Classes find participants using weighted drumsticks to smack the ground to the beat of fast paced hip-hop and rocks songs, then combining the motion with torso toning dance and cardio movements.

Not a musician? Not a problem! Potenza promises it doesn't matter, saying:

"Something we worried about in the beginning was 'are people who don't have any musical ability going to be able to do this?' But I think if you can clap your hands you can do Pound."

This sounds like a super fun fitness class and because of the rave reviews, it's moving out to New York along with other nationwide locations this summer!
