Both Serena and Venus Williams are consistently placed on Court 2 during Wimbledon, despite between the two of them having won 9 of the last 11 singles championships.
So why wouldn't the ladies be featured on the more prominent court? Especially with how widely known they are?
"They like to put us on Court 2 — me and Venus — for whatever reason. I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe one day we'll figure it out…I don't really think about it. I don't make it a big issue. I think at some point, maybe I should."
Everyone else wondering why has been coming up with some interesting reasons — including both racism and sexism.
But the tournament's spokesperson denies those allegations:
Tournament spokesperson Johnny Perkins said the sisters' placement was "not deliberate," noting broadcast considerations and ticket sales as considerable factors for scheduling.
You'd think that 9 out of 11 would bring ticket sales, yeah?
Honestly, we're beginning to wonder why too. We're not going to be so hasty as to jump to the darkest of conclusions yet, but, it's becoming so frequent that it can't be a coincidence!
Until we find out, or until they're moved to Court 1, maybe they should just see it as a good luck charm having won so many times where they are! At least have a positive spin on it for now!
