In a startling shift in the fast food industry, several Burger Kings, Sonics, Starbucks, and Pizza Huts are starting to serve alcohol!
We're not sure how we feel about this, but experts say it's a way for fast food to compete with casual dining in this tough economy.
One president of a restaurant consulting firm, said:
"For consumers, it's basically about having it your way — even if it's having a beer with your burger."
However, an alcohol watchdog group warns, "Fast food plus fast alcohol equals fast drunks."
For now, these booze serving burger joints are only in a few cities, but if successful, could start to serve alcohol at other locations.
Sonic will first attempt to mix beer, wine, and tater-tots at one location in Miami and one in Fort Lauderdale.
Burger King has unveiled "Whopper Bars" in Las Vegas, Miami, and Kansas City, while select Starbucks locations in Seattle are already selling brewskis as well.
It was only a matter of time before fast food "restaurants" took the liquor license leap as they attempt to lose those quotation marks we just used, but don't expect to see us there for happy hour. We'll stick to bars or, you know, actual restaurants.
