Smoking Decreases In The U.S.

Smoking down

And we couldn't be more thrilled!

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report released Tuesday revealed 19.3% of adults admitted to smoking last year, which is down from 21% in 2005.

People who are smoking are smoking less too! The rate for smoking 30 or more cigarettes daily (Barf!) dropped to about 8% from nearly 13% in 2005.

The decline in smoking over the last 6 years means 3 million fewer adults were lighting up. Still, the government has their work cut out for them to meet their goal of no more than 12% of the U.S. population smoking by 2020.

Experts say if this rate of decline continues, adult smoking rates will reach 17% by 2020.

We'd love to see smoking decline to 12% nationwide by the end of the decade, but any kind of decrease in cigarette use still means millions of lives are being saved!

Normally, we're all about being different, but this is one healthy majority we want as many people as possible to join!
