James Franco and Aron Rolsten must be palming their face right now. Instead of learning from Rolsten's horrific 2003 Utah hiking experience that was portrayed in the Franco film 127 Hours, a 64-year-old man from North Carolina went out and repeated it!

Without telling friends or family where he was going, Amos Wayne Richards went to Little Blue John Canyon, the SAME Utah desert canyon from the film, and fell 10 feet to dislocate his shoulder and break his leg!

With only rain water for hydration and two protein bars for food, he crawled nearly 5 miles across the rocky terrain toward his car.

"I was actually following my GPS, crawling right on top of my feet print that I had hiked in on," he told sources.

Luckily, park rangers discovered Richards' empty camp site and tracked him down. The injured hiker reportedly hailed a rescue helicopter down by using the flash on his camera to catch the pilot's attention.

He is now recovering in his North Carolina home following immediate treatment at a Utah hospital for a shattered leg and dehydration.

Denny Ziemann, the chief ranger of the Canyonlands National Park, noted after the rescue:

"We make a lot of rescues of people, but we usually know where they are. They were either hiking with somebody and got hurt or if they were hiking alone, they told people where they were going."

PLEASE do not embark on any dangerous hikes WITHOUT telling someone where you are going! As much as our brains seems to be hardwired to think "it will never happen to me," it definitely can!
