Denise Richards may not have been the most appropriate role model for young girls when she first began her Hollywood career, but the actress is working hard to make sure she's a role model for her daughters now!
In an article she posted on iVillage, Denise admits to feeling hypocritical when trying to teach her daughters to develop a healthy body image, considering she got breast implants at just 19. The 40-year-old, however, feels more confident in her own skin than she did in her 20s and wants her children to discover that confidence sooner, rather than later, explaining:
"At 19 when I first got my breasts done, I wish that I was confident enough with my body to not have had surgery. That is something that I really want to encourage in my daughters, to embrace their healthy body and have confidence."
To encourage her girls to eat right and live an active lifestyle, she emphasizes the healthy benefits over the physical, explaining:
"When I exercise I never say I work out to stay thin — I always use the words healthy and strong."
Even though her job demands her to look glamorous on camera, she is careful to avoid sending a message that places an importance on vanity, continuing:
"I don't obsess about wearing makeup when I leave the house or looking a certain way. I often look frumpy in paparazzi shots because I may just throw myself together going to the park and soccer games."
Denise may regret her past, but all she can do is enjoy the present and work toward a brighter future for her family!
It sounds like she's doing a fine job as a mother and we have no doubt that they will grow up to LOVE their body as much as Denise loves them!
