If you've had episodes of kidney stones, there's a good chance that you're 30% more likely to get type-2 diabetes later in life, unfortunately.
Diabetes is ridiculously widespread, which is a shame, because in most cases type-2 is preventable. So if you're getting kidney stones you might want to take it as a sign to get into shape! The common factor shared between the stones and diabetes were obesity and age.
People with diabetes are more likely to develop kidney stones that diabetes free people are, but the reverse may or may not be true. In the study 94k Taiwanese adults were tested. About 30% of those with kidney stones were more likely to be diagnose within the next 5 years with diabetes.
Also, in another look of 23,000 people with kidney stones, 12.4% went on to develop diabetes. Only 9.9% of the 70,700 stone-free people did.
It's an interesting look into something that needs to be looked at, that's for sure. Anything that's even remotely preventable needs to be understood. Type-2 diabetes is preventable a lot of the time, so do something about it!!
