A BIG congratulations is in order for the parents of the world's 7 billionth baby!
Camille Galura, a woman in the Philippines, gave birth to her second daughter named Danica May Camacho, who was touted as the world's 7 billionth baby born.
She was welcomed into the world 2 minutes before midnight on Sunday by flashes from photographers covering the event, followed by a kiss from her adoring mother, a gift certificate for free shoes, and a chocolate cake reading "7B Philippines".
Danica wasn't literally the 7 billionth person to come into the world, but rather a celebrated symbol of Earth reaching a record high population.
The United Nations picked Monday as a worldwide celebration by recognizing a series of births in various countries, including 7 other newborns in India.
Not everyone is celebrating the dramatic rise in global population, however. To Dr. Eric Tayag of the Philippines' Department of Health, Danica serves as a warning, explaining:
"Seven billion is a number we should think about deeply. We should really focus on the question of whether there will be food, clean water, shelter, education and a decent life for every child. If the answer is 'no,' it would be better for people to look at easing this population explosion."
The world better come up with an answer Dr. Tayag's question soon because the U.N. estimates the world's population will reach 8 billion by 2025 and 10 billion by 2083!
The doctor brings up valid concerns, but for now let's just focus on the fact that modern medicine and technology has allowed our population to continually thrive on this big blue planet!
