We can't imagine beating cancer into remission, then facing it again just 20 months later. For Ethan Zohn and his girlfriend, Jenna Morasca, it's the reality both Survivor winners are facing right now.
Ethan has already opened up about his condition and seems to be pretty positive. So positive, in fact, he's still running in the New York Marathon despite already having begun chemo therapy.
In a recent interview, Jenna is proving she's just as tough and doesn't plan on letting cancer get in the way of their future, saying:
"For him, I'm strong and I put my armor on. I told him, 'We're going to put things in our calendar. We're going to make plans forever and cancer is going to have to work around our schedule.'"
Although she has her armor on, that doesn't maker the situation any easier to deal with — especially the SECOND time around! The reality star continued:
"The first time, as devastating and crazy and horrible as it was, I was like, 'Fine, we're going to beat this.' This time was a lot more devastating for me because we'd already been through so much. We really had moved on with our life and we had a lot of stuff we wanted to do that didn't involve cancer – I didn't think we'd have to do this again."
Thanks to a new drug, called SGN-35, Ethan isn't suffering as many side effects of the treatment and Jenna says:
"It's weird because he doesn't look sick and he doesn't act sick but inside he still is. He feels great, he can travel and he's still running the marathon, which I think is crazy! But I think he's running it for everyone who has suffered from cancer. He's not going to let it stop him."
As a couple, they aren't going to let the disease stop them from planning their future together either, including marriage.
"When we do get married, that whole 'in sickness and in health' is a joke," Jenna says. "Just take that out, we already did that. You just realize how much you love each other and you want to continue on as planned."
