Joe Paterno, the legendary Penn State University football coach, announced on Wednesday morning that he is retiring at the end of the season following a child sex abuse scandal that rocked the nation.
Although Joe Pa did not take part in any of the abuse, he allegedly knew back in 2002 that his former defensive coordinator, Jerry Sandusky, had molested young boys AT the university's football complex.
The 84-year-old coach, who has held the coveted position for more than half his life with 46 seasons under his belt, reportedly broke down in tears while making the announcement to his team in an auditorium at the campus' athletic facility.
"I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief. I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today."
If that were completely true, he would have done more when alerted about the disturbing events that took place in the locker room showers between his assistant coach and a defenseless boy!
He may have received a standing ovation from his team after announcing his retirement, but we can't clap for a man who turned a blind eye to disgusting sexual abuse!
