We've been hearing for some time that if you want to lose weight, nixing some of the salt in your diet is a good way to do it.
A low salt diet does lower blood pressure, but it also raises cholesterol, fat, and hormones known to be contributing factors in heart disease. So we've been saying this for a long time, but it's looking like once again that moderation is the key to success.
The thing is this: the risks associated with both low and high salt diets cancel each other out. Meaning, if you go low you have the risk of cholesterol et al, and if you go high you have blood pressure issues. Neither reduces the risk and in fact keep it the same.
Bummer. And we thought they were really onto something!
Looks like, for now, moderation wins again!
