Jay Ratliff has found himself in a shared custody battle about a baby he didn't know was his until recently.
He just signed a new $40 million contract extension with the Cowboys, and wants the judge to know that he's willing to make the effort (financially and time-wise) to be a good father.
Not just that though, because he's getting the feeling that the mother of his child is trying for his money, too, without really giving him the proper chance to be there for his kid. She slapped him with a request for child support, which is fine, but apparently she's asking for way more than the state's guidelines.
So Jay's argument is that he doesn't want to be out of the baby's life at all, and actually wants shared custody and to help out financially that way.
His rep says:
"Jay's stepped up to become a good father, he loves his child and he's letting the judicial system run its course."
Jay has even been visiting his baby at least three times a week.
It sounds like he really does want to be a father, which is great! We just hope he isn't doing this as a ploy not have to pay as much child support — though, we'd think that if he really didn't want be a part of the kid's life he would just use legal channels to get the support down the the state's guidelines instead of all this extra effort.
Hope you're enjoying being a dad, Jay, regardless of all this legal dramz!
