Sometimes you just don't have the money or space to get the workouts you want. Especially if you're living in a dorm, or a small apartment.
For those who want to get into shape but can't quite figure out how to go about it with what you've got, you're not alone!
A FitPerezcious reader asked out boys at Dynamics of Motion to help her do just that, in a dorm in England:
I am a student living in a dorm in England - and cant afford to work out. If I wanted to use my jump rope to work out would you suggest trying to do say 3 minutes on and 3 minutes off for 15 minutes, would that be enough every day to whip my butt into shape. I cant run because A. Its freezing and B. My knees!
If you are limited to a dorm room, then jump rope is a great exercise. But, don't be afraid to switch things up as well. Laying down bicycle, squats, push ups, lunges, split squats etc… can all be done in a small room with no equipment. Remember it's not just about doing cardio, but also building lean muscle along with it. Doing some exercises along with the jump rope will get you the best results.
As far as time, try doing 1-3 minutes on and 1-3 minutes off twice in the morning and twice later in the day and it will be more than enough. Not only should you focus on doing each set longer, but also with increasingly more intensity and speed. Remember it is all about how much effort you put into your exercises.*
*Since your knees may be an issue, just make sure you land softly and quietly to help soften the impact. *
Thanks Dynamics of Motion! You guys are the raddest, and not to mention extremely helpful!
Hope this helps, reader! And don't forget the diet — check out one of the videos from the boys above… about losing the salt!
