FitPerez reader and amateur boxer Allie would like to add a little more power to her punch, so she wrote pro Alex Brenes for advice, asking:
Can you still punch with power if you don't pivot or step with your punches.
According to Alex:
Allie, Pivoting is great, but can also be the worst. Over do it and you will be exposed to something that you won't like. More than pivoting, working with the proper technique, proper conditioning, as we do at DeLaBBC, will help you maximize your strength.
The back foot, though, always needs to pivot to ensure that your reach with the back hand is even with the front! If you step at the wrong time will bring you too far in, taking away all your leverage. Like everything in life, there's a time and a place for this. Keep practicing and you will find it!
