President Obama stood behind his health secretary deicision to block over the counter sales of the morning after pill to under 17 year olds.
The FDA presented claims that the Plan B One Step was safe and should be available to women over the counter.
While the president stated he was not involved in the decision, he did say he agreed with Secretary Kathleen Sebelius's philosohpy that younger teens shouldn't be able to buy the drug without supervision.
Obama states the following:
I will say this, as the father of two daughters: I think it is important for us to make sure that we apply some common sense to various rules when it comes to over-the-counter medicine.
The move by Obama suggests that the adminstration wanted to avoid conflict with the GOP.
Pollsters state that this move is less political than some may think. Pollster Geoff Garin states the move was a "damned if you do, damned if you don't."
This hurts Obama's appeal to women voters and support groups.
Teva, the manufacturer of Plan B, also faces a minor setback.
The goal was to make the pill available next to condoms and other contraceptives, alerting teen and young adult awareness.
What do U think? Is this a good move by the Obama administration?
