The internet and computer giant DOES still have a heart! Google just donated $11.5 million to help combat modern day slavery!
Shockingly and sadly, slavery is still a huge problem and it affects more than 27 million people around the world. This would make it the largest corporate grant ever in the fight devoted to the advocacy, intervention and rescue of people being held, forced to work or provide sex against their will:
"Many people are surprised to learn there are more people trapped in slavery today than any time in history. The good news is that there are solutions. Each year we focus some of our annual giving on meeting direct human need. Google chose to spotlight the issue of slavery this year because there is nothing more fundamental than freedom."
Of the main groups picked to be helped with donations, we have: < strong>Polaris Project and Slavery Footprint, a bunch of smaller ones, and the largest effort will come from the Justice Mission!
This is such a great cause! It really does blow our minds to know that there are more slaves today than ever before!
And, what's cool is that this donation and various other ones to help the world brings Google's charitable givings to $100 million this year in 2011! Fab!
