Tips To Avoid Overeating At Holiday Parties

Christmas time means lots of presents, but not all of them are good — especially extra pounds!

A FitPerez reader wants some tips to avoid recieving that unwanted gift from their body and wrote Amanda Garbutt from The Hot Plate for advice, asking:

Christmas parties are coming up and that's when I pack on the pounds. Do you have any tips to avoid overeating at holiday parties?

According to Amanda:

I hear that! Christmas is the time of year we all want to relax and forget about our worries, but seriously I’ve had enough with the New Year’s resolution to lose 10 pounds. This year try these three tricks to banish holiday bulge.

One, don’t have a separate water glass and wine glass. Between each glass of wine fill it with water. This way you’ll stay hydrated and stop yourself from mindlessly drinking 800 calories every holiday party.

Two, eat before you go to a party. Don’t eat a whole meal, but do try and eat a solid amount of lean protein like a hard boiled egg, lean deli turkey with a slice of low fat cheese, 1/2 cup non-fat Greek yogurt. These take the edge off hunger and keep you full long enough to pick your battles at the buffet table. Three, don’t sweat it too much. If there is a piece of cake, or second helping of turkey you can’t refuse then don’t worry.

The next day try and add in a little extra cardio and make sure you go back to normal eating the next day. Try and pick your holiday party weaknesses and enjoy in moderation, remember there will always be Christmas next year!
