A FitPerez reader is vowing to eat less in 2012, but like every year before this, she's afraid that resolution won't last too long! For advice, she wrote one of our favorite food contributors Caitlin Cooks, asking:

My New Year’s resolution is to eat healthy…again. I make this resolution every single year, but it always fails. I can never seem to stick to it. Tips???



According to Caitlin:

Don’t think of it as a New Year’s resolution. Resolution = restriction. When you do this, you’ll put more pressure on yourself. Imagine it as a lifestyle change. Make a list of the reasons your doing it: for your heart, your health, to avoid getting sick, to enjoy life.

Try exercising (even if it’s for 20 minutes) in the morning before work. This will set the tone for your day. You’ll be less likely to indulge when you remember dragging your butt out of bed super-early to sweat it out. Drink lots of water, get rest, control your portions and don’t buy junk food. You don’t buy it, you can’t eat it! Replace that candy bowl with a big, luscious bowl of colorful winter fruits.
