This is FAB news for the charity FreeRice.com — the just reached a million users!
If you haven't heard about this charity, well, sit down, dear readers. FreeRice.com might sound like some sort of ad, but it isn't. It's a site where when you sign up as a user you play a little trivia game. The trivia game is a blast — and for ever question you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice to United Nations World Food Programme.
Doesn't really sound like much, right? Well, remember: they just hit a million users. Take all of them and have them correctly answer questions and you get an estimated 100 billion grains of rice being donated from players in 179 countries by answering 2.5 million trivia questions. That's enough to feed nearly 5 million people for a day.
“When one million people each do their small part, the collective effect is beyond impressive — it’s extraordinary. Beyond the remarkable benefits for those most in need, this is a significant milestone for WFP in our mission to engage millions of people online in the fight against hunger.”
The site uses money from the advertising to buy the rice, too!
This is such an awesome way to get people involved with helping others. It's fun, and it's free.
