This breaks our heart!
The son of the Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin, has been found dead in a river in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Following a security guard's report of hearing cries for help from someone on the ice that night, divers searched the river on Monday and discovered the body.
Losing a child will ALWAYS be tough, no matter what time of the year, but we imagine it's even tougher for a football coach when it's right before a major playoff. The game seems to be the last thing on the mind of Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, who is giving Joe all the support he needs, saying:
"The Philbin family's obviously going through a tough time right now, and as we always have, we're a family-first philosophy with our organization, with our program. So we're supporting Joe and his family the best we can."
As the Green Bay Packers prepare to defend their Super Bowl title in the playoffs, McCarthy is positive the team will be ready to compete, despite the tragedy, continuing:
"We're prepared to do whatever we need to do as a staff to make sure our team's ready to go."
This is such an awful situation for any family and we hope they can find the strength to get through it. Our hearts and prayers goes out to the Philbin family. Rest in peace, Michael!
