We are absolutely floored! How could a company be so ignorant!?
A Dubai gym called The Circuit Factory has a PR nightmare on their hands after they released an advertisement with a picture of Auschwitz, a Nazi concentration camp, which displays the copy "Kiss Your Calories Goodbye."
Kiss any potential new customers goodbye too!
After immediate outrage the founder of the gym, Phil Parkinson, apologized on Twitter, writing:
"Apologies for the insane poster campaign that was put up this morning… The creative guy has been told where to go x"
We're pretty sure the company had to OK the ad before it went up on their Facebook page, but sure, let's just blame the creative guy for his poor taste.
The Anti-Defamation League has accepted his apology, but some PR experts suggest there will more than likely be some longterm effects, saying:
"Associating your brand with human suffering as a means to secure visibility is extremely short-sighted and may have far-reaching effects."
We'd like to think so.
Interestingly enough though, Phil reports a surge in his business, explaining:
“A huge number people have researched or Googled… our YouTube channel has shot up, our [Facebook] group page has got an hundred extra members in minutes and we have had about five times as many enquiries as before. It has got to the point I am nervous that I can’t cater for demand.”
