Maybe you should reconsider listening to your iPod all the time. Injuries that happen while you're walking around with them have tripled in the past few years!
There were 116 crashes involving pedestrians who were wearing headphones between 2004 and 2011. Eighty-one of them resulted in deaths. It started with 16 cases between 2004 and 2005 and rose to 47 by 2010 and 2011.
Dang, that's not good!
The idea is that wearing headphones, of course, causes some sensory deprivation — mainly the ability to hear that train or bus coming your way, seeing as half of the victims were struck by trains; the other half by cars, buses, trucks, tractor trailers or bicycles.
How hard is it to reserve listening to music to non-dangerous situations, or to maintain a proper level of volume??
Not hard, is the answer.
Be careful, dear readers!
