Boxing is, no doubt, one of the best sports to practice if you want to get that body of yours into amazing shape. However, a FitPerez reader named Sara wants to know if the sport is suitable for young child to participate in and wrote Alex Brenes for advice, asking:
My question is all the way from the UK! My 5 year old boy is slightly obsessed with boxing – we want to get him into a kids gym but is it to young for him to start boxing – just being a concerned mum in regards to his development.
Sara, I have 2 boys and I know what are you talking about! Boxing is a great sport, but it demands a lot of discipline. Five-year-olds are invincible and they want to do it all, but just like their life experience so far, their attention span may be short. Sure, getting him arround a clean boxing atmosphere may be a great way to ensure that when he is ready, about 10 and up, he wont be intimidated.
So pretty much, as long as he's not getting punched in the face and is only hitting the bag, it's never to young to start training.
