We LOVE this idea!
Lance Armstrong is asking California voters to approve Proposition 29 in June, which will raise the packs of cigarettes sold in the state by just $1 as a means to raise money for cancer research!
Since cigarettes CAUSE cancer, why not give a little bit back toward curing the disease too? If it was up to us, we'd eliminate the sale of cigarettes all together, but since we know some people love their unhealthy vices too much to part with them, we think this is a fine compromise.
If California votes "yes" on Prop. 29, over $850 million a year will be raised to fund cancer research, build new research facilities and aid anti-smoking programs!
3% of the money will also go toward local law enforcement's fight against black-market cigarette sales and the sale of cancer sticks to minors.
The 7-time Tour de France winner and cancer survivor told sources, "We feel that Prop. 29 will save lives, stop kids from smoking and just may lead us to a cure."
It will certainly help, that's for sure!
We realize the economy is tight, but maybe a one dollar price hike will be enough to finally convince some smokers to quit the stupid habit that costs them THOUSANDS of dollars a year, not to mention something they can't put a price tag on — their life!
