No one likes their most personal secrets being spilled, but in Christina Ricci's case, one of the most horrifying experiences of her adolescence ended up making the rest of her life a lot better!
The actress and former child star told the UK edition of Marie Claire in the April issue that growing up in front of the cameras was tough. One of the most difficult moments of her childhood was when someone outed her for having an eating disorder AFTER she had received treatment, explaining:
"Somebody actually found out about it and outed me while I was recovering. It was a horrifying thing to do to a 14-year-old trying to cope with a devastating illness.”
While she was understandably upset after the intrusion, she made a vow that would shape the rest of her life, saying:
"Out of rage, I vowed that no one would ever be able to out me for a secret again. So I was going to be completely honest in the rest of my life. I don't want to be hurt in that way again.”
Now years later, she told the magazine that she is thankful to be living a MUCH happier and healthier lifestyle, continuing:
"I'm so glad I’m not 20 years old any more. I was in a hurricane. I'm a lot calmer now. I don't cause destruction for myself and others everywhere I go. I take things as they happen and I've learned to be calm about things. Troubleshoot problems as they arise and make the best out of things.”
See! Honesty with yourself, then others (when you are ready) will lead to happiness!
