New York City Opens The Nation's First LGBT Senior Center!
This has been a long time coming!
New York City has become the first area in the nation to finally open up a senior center that specifically caters to the LGBT community!
The Innovative Senior Center in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood is run by SAGE, which stands for Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders.
Openly gay City Council Speaker Christine Quinn attended the opening ceremony last Thursday and called it a milestone for New Yorkers in the LGBT community, explaining:
"There was a time not so long ago when both of those things would have seemed impossible. And we are sending a message today that the impossible is not only possible, it is expected."
So true! We don't just want equality for all, we EXPECT it!
