Who wouldn't want a butt like Jennifer Lopez? Everyone could use a little extra bump in their bum, so check out a few tips on how to do just that from the American Idol judges personal trainer Gunnar Peterson and nutritionist Kelly Kaehler!
“If you want to enhance the shape of your butt, as well as tone and tighten, the most important exercises are squats and lunges. Be sure to use weights, weights, weights, and weights… and then some weights!”
“The more muscles you can target at different angles, the better," added Kelly. The nutritionist explained that cardio is key for anybody trying to get in better shape, continuing:
“Cardio is a must, anywhere from 20 minutes a day to an hour. Just change it up and try different things—like the elliptical, the bike, and the treadmill to more explosive moves like sprinting, the stairs, and plyometric exercises that will kick up the heart rate and demand that power.”
Exercise is important, but so is what you eat! Gunnar believes in a balanced diet consisting of as much natural food as possible, advising:
“Eat clean food as close to its natural state as possible. Leafy greens, fruits, some complex carbs, and adequate protein—beef is fine if you want it, but I’d keep it only at once a week. And plenty of water! Start early with that and stay late!”
As a nutritionist, Kelly knows the value of a balanced diet, but strongly recommends relying on portion control to limit the amount of food you digest, sharing:
“Follow a well-balanced diet with real food and practice good portion control. Have a healthy protein, fat, and complex carb with every meal.”
