In your Who Thought To Even Try story of the day, according to new research it might be true that LSD could help treat alcoholism.
Apparently the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, also known as the Coolest College Ever, has found that a single does of the class A drug LSD has "significant beneficial effect" on alcoholism.
The analysis was on studies on the drug between 1966 and 1970, in which 59% of subjects given LSD showed reduced levels of alcohol misuse — so obviously we should be testing this again!
Only, the effect was maintained for just six months after taking LSD, and then was gone after the year. Which means maybe there needs to be a regiment of doses.
Here's what they said:
"Given the evidence for a beneficial effect of LSD on alcoholism, it is puzzling why this treatment approach has been largely overlooked."
Talk about an outside of the box approach!
Though, we can't recommend that anyone try this on their own.
