If you've ever skipped a workout to party, why not consider doing both at the same time?
A new fitness fad is gaining momentum in New York City, which takes Jazzercise to the next level. "Party workouts" combine the dance clubs scene with the exercise class experience, plus lots of great tunes and great people just looking to have a good time.
This re-imagining of activities that are unusually only offered in gyms are attracting a diverse crowd of individuals looking for meaningful friends that don't revolve around drinking, as well as those who have outgrown the late night club scene.
30-year-old former clubgoer Denise Kreft told the New York Times that she is a regular at a Friday night SoulCycle ride in NYC because:
"When things get crazy, my workout is what always falls through the cracks. But this is like a show, a party and a way to burn a ton of calories all in one and it’s the same price as a couple of glasses of wine.”
A Saturday night Barry's Bootcamp workout party has become so popular in the city that they need a bouncer to manage the line of eager exercisers waiting to join in, as one explained:
"It sounds crazy to be so excited about working out on a Saturday night, but Joey is such a great trainer and his classes are almost impossible to get into. And the level of detail makes it like a wedding — this one-time event you don’t want to miss.”
It's not just big in the Big Apple either. In Houston, Jennifer Brugh-Tanguy founded Nightclub Cardio in March 2009. She now has 160 instructors in three states leading $10 “dress-to-sweat” evening dance workouts.
The question is, why haven't U joined the party yet!?
