A new memoir from Tiger Woods' former coach, Hank Haney, is revealing some VERY insightful details as to why Tiger and Elin Nordegren divorced.
The obvious answer is that he cheated on her with about 10,000 women, but it turns out they went to couples therapy after his infidelity revelation AND she wanted him to quit golf to focus on his family.
In The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods, Haney reveals a significant conversation with Woods, writing:
"When I asked about Elin, who'd participated in some couples therapy with him, he said, 'We're trying. But I don't know if she is buying all this stuff.' He added, 'She wants me to not play golf for two years. Right now, don't know.' The call lasted about ten minutes."
It sounds like they were close to a reconcile, but as we all know, eventually divorced. If there is any truth to Haney's recollection of that conversation, then maybe it was Tiger's unwillingness to sacrifice his career for his family that REALLY led to the split.
Let's be honest though. If he was cheating on her so frequently, he probably wasn't happy enough to make such a sacrifice anyway. It's a shame that their relationship ended the way it did, but it's obvious that they were not meant to be together!
