The American Medical Association did the largest study of its kind on breast cancer.
The study looked at an amazing 100,000 women over the course of 28 years!
It found some disturbing results.
Three to six glasses of alcohol a week increased the risk of breast cancer by 15%.
If the number gets bumped up to two glasses of wine a day the risk goes up to 51%!!
What happens is when alcohol enters the body, one of the responses is to up the levels of estrogen in the body which can promote tumor growth.
So even less than one drink a day could up your risk!
The study found no difference between what the beverage was, whether it's beer, wine or anything else.
They say the risk is still pretty low, especially if you have no family history of breast cancer.
And there are still benefits on heart health and preventing heart disease and stroke if you're already a drinker.
Though it couldn't hurt to rethink that glass of wine with dinner every night.
