Someone's upset with the FDA.
The National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) recently petitioned the FDA to ban the use of BPA in products.
BPA, bisphenol A, is a possibly toxic chemical used in many products, especially plastics and resin that line or make up our cans and certain food products. It's even in baby bottles!
The FDA has said they will not be banning BPA from being used but that doesn't mean they're shutting down research into its safety.
The NRDC thinks this is the wrong move, saying:
"BPA is a toxic chemical that has no place in our food supply.
The agency has failed to protect our health and safety in the face of scientific studies that continue to raise disturbing questions about the long-term effects of BPA exposures, especially in fetuses, babies and young children.
The FDA is out of step with scientific and medical research. This illustrates the need for a major overhaul of how the government protects us against dangerous chemicals."
They seem to be very adamant about getting this stuff banned.
And seeing as how there has been a lot of buzz about BPA in recent years, we wouldn't be surprised if there were a ban in the near future.
So for now, since you have to continue eating and drinking, do your best to stay away from BPAs!!
