Sergeant Travis Mills lost all four of his limbs when an Improvised Explosive Device (I.E.D.) went off in Afghanistan.

Now he's back stateside in Washington, D.C., recovering at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

While he's recovering, the Gary Sinise Foundation, started by the actor Gary Sinise who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, and The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, started in honor of a firefighter who lost his life in 9/11, are working together to build Travis a home.

The director of operations for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation said:

"It's a passion. It just rips your heart out to see these kids — and they are kids — who have such promise and have their whole lives ahead of them, and then this happens. We want to make sure they fulfill their promise and their dreams."

So they are building him a "smart home" with oversized rooms and iPad-controlled countertops.

Mills' mother-in-law said:

"Thank you everyone for your support. Let's pray that tomorrow is a more settling, healing day. What a great man Travis is, and we'll be with him every step of the way."

We're so glad there are organizations like these, dedicated to helping those who've more than earned it.
