Horrendous! What a complete lack of gratitude!
A woman named Debbie Stevens did something she totally didn't have to do: she donated a kidney so her boss, Jackie Brucia (pictured above), could move up a list for her own transplant.
As a thank you, Jackie then helped Debbie get a promotion and a raise!
JUST KIDDING, she then helped get Debbie fired.
“I decided to become a kidney donor to my boss, and she took my heart. I feel very betrayed. This has been a very hurtful and horrible experience for me. She just took this gift and put it on the ground and kicked it.’’
Not too long in to being rehired when she moved back to the state, Jackie asks if Debbie had been serious about an offer she made when her donor fell through.
“She called me into her office and said, ‘My donor was denied. Were you serious when you said that?’ I said, ‘Sure, yeah.’ She was my boss, I respected her. It’s just who I am. I didn’t want her to die.’’
While Debbie wasn't a perfect match for Jackie, the doctors totally let her donate to someone else just to move Jackie up on the list.
Here's where things get wack: Debbie hadn't really thought about the pain and discomfort that would result after the surgery, so she felt a huge pressure to return to work before she was really ready. It doesn't matter that Jackie was STILL RECOVERING AT HOME. She had to go in.
Not feeling up to it, she took three sick days — and then got a call from Jackie (who was still at home) to yell at her:
“She . . . said, ‘What are you doing? Why aren’t you at work?’ I told her I didn’t feel good. She said, ‘You can’t come and go as you please. People are going to think you’re getting special treatment.’ ”
Or they'll think she just had major surgery to help out someone she really didn't have to.
Once they were both back at work, she'd yell at Debbie in front of everyone… and had her office and over taken away before she was demoted to a different office 50 miles away! Then she was fired.
Absolutely HORRIBLE. But, Debbie being as awesome as she is, does not regret it. Why? Because she saved the life of a man in Missouri with her kidney.
We absolutely think that a discrimination lawsuit is in order! This is all kinds of jacked up!
