From opening the Circus tour (watch that here) to now THIS!
Reunited with Godney!
Such a special moment!
Check it out above!!!
Pump that iron, ladies! Ha!
As it turns out, in a new study, seniors who lifted weights or did other forms of resistance training slowed their decline to complete dementia!
They found this out by creating a six-month strength program that involved women with mild cognitive impairment. Specifically those who were having memory issues. And guess what? It helped! It actually improved their problem-solving and decision-making brain functions!
In the study, 86 women 70 to 80 years old were randomly put into these groups:
26 participants did resistance training, such as lifting weights, to build muscle strength.
24 walked outdoors in an aerobics program.
27 took basic balance and toning classes as a control.
The exercise classes were held twice weekly.
Here's what one of the Professors said happened:
"What our results show is that resistance training can indeed improve both your cognitive performance and your brain function. What is key is that it will improve two processes that are highly sensitive to the effects of aging and neurodegeneration: executive function and associative memory — often impaired in early stages of Alzheimer's disease."
The thing is, we don't want seniors going off and trying all this on their own. Always have a partner!
But wow, this is great news! We need more studies like this!
We wonder what effect it has on men?? The guy in the pic (above) seems to be workin' hard too!
