I have always loved the way fresh tomatoes taste, especially when they are home-grown!
During the summer, I hunt down Heirloom tomatoes at my local farmer’s market and add them to my garden salads. When it comes to eating fruits and vegetables, tomatoes are a favorite for many! In addition to tasting great, they offer many health benefits. Tomatoes are an excellent source of lycopene, which helps prevent prostate cancer.
In addition to promoting a healthy prostate, these juicy foods are full of antioxidants that can help prevent heart disease. One medium tomato contains nearly a quarter of the day’s recommended intake of vitamin C, which makes it a great food for boosting your immune system. Tomatoes are low in calories and high in potassium. They are also a good source of fiber.
DID YOU KNOW:
- Keep your eyes and vision healthy by eating tomatoes. They are a great
source of quercetin and lutein which help prevent cataracts.
- The more red and ripe a tomato is, the more nutritious it will be. The
tomato peel is richer in nutrients than the flesh.
