Say it ain't so, Michael Phelps!
Apparently, the Olympic swimmer is ready to cool his jets — and will be retiring after the 2012 Summer Olympics!
Honestly, we can totally understand this. Michael has devoted almost his entire life to swimming. We'd be eager to move on as well. He'll probably never stop swimming completely, but we're sure he's starting to get tired of doing it competitively!
His mom would like him to do juuuuuust one more, though, saying this about the 2016 Games:
"C'mon Michael just a 50 freestyle. I've never been [to Brazil] before."
"We'll go watch. But once I retire, I'm retiring. I'm done."
He only needs two more medals to tie the record holder for most medals. We're willing to bet he won't stop at just two, though — sailing past 18 medals, and making it just THAT much harder for someone to challenge his record!
We're sad to see you go, Michael! You represent your country so well!
But if your happiness is outside of swimming, we say go for that gold next!
