Nike Sued For Stealing Trademarked Phrase For Jordan Jacket

Nike is being sued for copyright infringement!

The term "lottery pick" is a basketball term that denotes a draft pick whose position is determined through the lottery.

A company called Urban Motive Sportswear had trademarked the term "Lottery Pick" back in 2004. They've used it on an energy drink, sportswear and other merch.

The problem arose when Nike started selling a jacket called "Jordan LS Lottery Pick Jacket."

It's a full zip, leather jacket from Michael Jordan Apparel with embossed panels and the Jumpman logo.

Nike seems to just be using the term as the general basketball term, not trying to build some brand off it… the Jordan brand is the biggest name they have.

But Ubran said the infringement on their trademark has:

"damaged [them] in a manner that cannot be fully measured or compensated in economic terms and for which there is not adequate remedy at law."

So they're suing Nike for trademark infringement and seeking unspecified damages — though with a powerful statement like the one above, we're sure they're looking for a lot.

We bet they settle out of court because Nike can afford to and doesn't want the bad publicity.
