Alzheimer's Patients May Benefit From Brain Pacemaker

There's a new device, similar to a pacemaker, that if implanted into the brains of Alzheimer's patients, could stimulate beneficial brain activity.

It could help with memory loss, depression and agitation.

The study's lead author said:

"What we can say is that the changes in brain activity are encouraging, but before we can make any sort of comments about the potential of the treatment we really have to study it in more individuals."

The implant delivers continuous electrical impulses into the brain which basically is like adding more fuel to the fire.

So little is still known about Alzheimer's but researchers have noticed that a lack of communication in certain parts of the brain can be to blame for some symptoms.

Implanting the device is a reasonably safe procedure but it can cost between $60,000 and $100,000.

We hope it actually works, so they can just zap people back to normal.
