Vikings belong up north and the state of Minnesota wants to keep it that way!

Governor Mark Dayton just signed off on a plan to build a $975 million stadium in downtown Minneapolis, replacing the dilapidated Metrodome.

Most of the supporters watching Governor Dayton scribbling his name on the legislation cheered and sang the team's fight song, Skol Vikings.

But there was one vehement detractor, who agreed with critics of the bill who stated that the taxpayers were paying too much money for the Vikings' new digs.

Many believed that the Vikes were on their way to El Lay as the lease for the Metrodome expired this year and as early talks seemed to be going nowhere.

Now, only El Lay fans are saddened by this news!

Team owners Zygi and Mark Wilf want to bring outdoor football back to the Mini Apple so they've been mulling over a retractable roof for the new stadium.

The new lease will have the Vikings in their nearly billion dollar stadium for the next 30 years.
