Second Case Of Flesh-Eating Bacteria Surfaces

Second Case

Unfortunately, Aimee in Georgia is still on life support in her battle with her necrotizing fasciitis.

While she fights on, we're sad to say another battle has appeared on the flesh-eating bacteria front — this time in South Carolina.

This woman is Lana Kuykendall, a 36 year old mother fighting a similar infection that has led to the removal of skin and tissue from her legs.

Lana gave birth to beautiful twins on May 7th. Everything was good until she returned home and found a rapidly expanding bruise on her leg. The doctors have had to remove the dead skin and tissue from both legs, and has put Lana on a ventilator.

The bacteria are common in the environment but rarely cause such a serious infection. The body's immune system is almost always able to fight them off, but in extreme cases the doctors have to act very aggressively to try and stop it.

Necrotizing fasciitis is rare, but totally scary regardless. There are an estimated 250 cases of it in the U.S. every year, so chances are it won't happen to you.

We hope both of these ladies can fight through it all!
