SoBi Bikes Coming This Summer!

SoBi Bike

So we guess bike-sharing is the newest fad among large cities, as we've heard plans for programs like this before!

Except the SoBi (Social Bicycle) plan sounds more hi-tech and awesome than just your usual sharing schtick!

It first started as just an idea and a Kickstarter project. Now, the bike is being shown off along with a few of the apps designed to work in unison with it!

Basically you locate a bike using the Android or iOS app, find it on the street, enter your PIN, unlock it and be on your way!

That's just the consumer side of it, though. If you're a business, say a resort or hotel or something, you can actually buy the bikes in bulk. They go for $1,100 a piece if you buy more than 50 of them. Otherwise they're $1,300.

In addition to that, you have to pay for the wireless data. That comes out to $15 a month per bike.

For consumers, you'll get updates on your phone about stuff like if your bike is locked, unlocked, routes, and of course social networking things.

You can reserve bikes, and you can even get help if the bike breaks down!

Interestingly enough, as far as the bikes go, they look pretty neat. They have those handy baskets and, if you noticed, do not have chains. They have shaft drives to move the wheels!

The keypad on the back of the bike does a lot of stuff too — you can even enter your info if for some reason you don't have your smartphone with you. They're powered by the movement of the bike, but if they're sitting a while, they also have solar panels!

All of this sounds WONDERFUL to us!

We're so glad these kinds of projects are happening!

Is this something U'd do??
