Almost 100 People Arrested In NY Drug Sweep!

Prescription Bust

Holy crap!

That's a lot of people! What an insane bust!

Ninety-eight people were just arrested in a N.Y. drug sweep!

And if you're thinking they're scummy drug dealers, think again: we're talking doctors and patients and along with dealers, in connection with several investigations into prescription drug trafficking.

These dealers are called "doctor shoppers" and the doctors that played along by exceeding their lawful authority to dispense and distribute controlled substances.

One of them is even accused of conspiring to distribute oxycodone to "shoppers" he knew were reselling to addicts!

Prosecutors allege that between January 2009 and November 2011, the doctor wrote more than 5,000 oxycodone prescriptions to patients who were known drug addicts.

Doctor shoppers are a little different. They go around to different doctors and trick them into prescribing. For example, in less than a month, one of them got nearly 1,800 pills from eight different doctors in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.

This really plays into the addiction issues we have as a nation. Prescription pills are the fastest growing dependency!

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said this:

"It's the fastest growing drug problem in our state and in the country. — They're the drugs of choice for a whole new generation of abusers. What's at stake here is thousands of lives, billions of dollars in health care costs. We passed the point several years ago where there was one prescription for narcotic painkillers for every man, woman child in New York."

The proposed solution would require tracking of 'scripts and painkillers, using electronic databases. Doctors would also have to check a patient's history before they could give anything out!

Such a shame that these doctors are doing this.

It was once a very noble profession, and they're ruining it for the other good women and men doctors out there!
