A couple in New Zealand, known only as Frank and Wilma, 69 and 65, were devastated when Frank's lung cancer apparently spread to his heart, leaving him with only months to live.
They cancelled their health insurance and Frank took up smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee again.
In ten days they blew $24,000!
Then they got home and sat around waiting for Frank to die, but he kept feeling fine.
Eventually a hospice worker who used to check on Frank came by. Frank said:
"He said, 'I'm here for the last time', and I said, 'Why'? He said, 'Well you don't have cancer'. We looked at each other and he said, 'Don't you know'?"
Turns out that Frank was rid of his cancer and the hospital had just forgotten to inform him.
So now they're in debt about $64,000.
Frank might not be out of the woods yet either but the couple is done with healthcare.
They no longer trust the system.
We're sad to hear about their debt but we hope they can at least enjoy Frank's health!
He's not going to die after all!
Still sounds like a happy ending to us.
