The U.S. has now decided that it's time to open up more areas for oil and gas drilling, because Obama wants to shut up some GOP critics — but will it work?
This SHOULD spur domestic energy production, too. But we're pretty sure it's mainly the GOP thing.
Bipartisanship is so lame, riiiiiiight guys? Right??
This, of course, does not make environmentalists happy.
They're planning 15 potential lease sales from 2012 to 2017, including 12 in the Gulf of Mexico and three off the coast of Alaska in the Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea and Cook Inlet Planning Areas.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says it's a "smart" and aggressive" way to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil — which we feel like is putting a band-aid over the issue.
Luckily, Obama's plan is a broad one and is being referred to as an "all of the above" scenario, where he's putting effort into ALL energy areas, including renewable forms.
We just think more of that effort should be put into alternatives!
