She has done a brave thing for us today, and has written a very special article for all to read.
Perez’s shirtless 4th July video inspired me to come out of the closet. No, I’m not gay but I am a passionate supporter of the NOH8 campaign and if you really want to know, I have been with men and women (and you love who you love) but that’s not what I’m here to announce.
And it’s not like it’s been a big secret either cause it’s all over my blog www.findingmymojo.com, but since I appeared on the cover of The National Enquirer this week and Perez very politely didn’t point it out (thank you PH), it is time to come clean. I slipped. Yes, just like someone who fell off the wagon after ten years dry, I recently stacked on a load of weight and am now working it off.
But I was so inspired by Perez sharing his fattest photos of himself when he showed his latest and hottest body just yesterday in his inaugural chest baring celebration I couldn’t help but get on the low fat gravy train. Land of the BRAVE all right! LOVE IT! So I thought I would come clean too in the hope of inspiring others, who may have been hiding their own skinny jeans in the closet because they no longer fit.
There is nothing to be ashamed of –and I should know because I’m on the cover of the National Enquirer with a label of “worst beach body”. But it is what it is. I can’t change yesterday but I can do something different today and tomorrow and that’s all that matters.
Having lost over 150 pounds previously (get my first book Confessions of a Reformed Dieter at this place here) this is what I DO know. Not only have I been here before, but I have also been bigger, much bigger (I was once over 300 pounds) so it’s not all THAT bad.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty bad, because seriously, my butt is so big it could have its own zip code and when buying jeans I can no longer wear 501’s I need 1002’s but what stops me from losing my mind over it is that I know one simple fact that will change everything: All you have to do is start NOW. Move more, eat fewer fatty foods, make better fresher healthier choices, love and respect yourself REGARDLESS of your size and before you know it your body is a reflection of how you feel about and treat yourself.
It’s already working.
I lost five pounds this week. Sure, it’s not the crazy numbers we see Hollywood stars or even the contestants on Biggest Loser get but that’s because I’m normal (I do use that word loosely) and I’m not working out 8 hours a day and living off lettuce.
I am doing one hard sweaty workout almost every day, I am making better food choices and I have cut back on the drinks. I’m sure Perez will agree with me, he said it himself in his inspiring video yesterday, it IS hard to change your body – whether it be losing weight or gaining muscle, but it’s even harder to do nothing about it and die an early death.
All of my books have been honest accounts of my journey from obesity, I’ve spent years helping others do it as I did the first time around and I am just not the kind of person to hide away until I emerge with the “perfect” body pretending it never happened.
This time is no different. Follow my journey. I plan to lose 60 pounds, however long it takes me but I do think I will be pretty close to my goal around the New Year. Why not come with me? What better way to start the New Year than with your health the best it has ever been? And everybody knows you do it a lot easier if you have support so decide right now that you are going to make a change and let’s all do it together. Hey you can even get one on one support here at FitPerez so there’s no excuse!
In honor of Perez’s shirtless 4th July shot I am doing one of my own. But I’m going to update mine every month until I get to my goal so you can see the progress I am making. I will share the good, the bad and the ugly and with 5 pounds down and 55 to go, I promise you I will NOT stop until I stand before you in a smoking hot bikini proving that you CAN do what you set out to do as long as you never ever ever give up!
Thanks Perez, you are an inspiration!
