Maura Tierney was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, but kept the treatment to herself.
Here's what she said:
"I remember thinking, 'I'm so young, this can't be happening,' It was an odd moment."
She had the mastectomy, but wasn't prepared to find out that she'd need chemo as well. Three months of it.
Fitness helped her through it:
"It's not fun. You don't feel well. If you take care of yourself and exercise, it helps. Exercising is extremely important. I think I always kind of lived in the moment. I don't think [cancer] changed me that way. But I spend a lot more time with my family now – that's one solid difference."
We hope that your cancer never comes back!
She's right, though — we've heard it before that fitness can be a key part of going through cancer treatment.
We bet it's super tough when you never feel like hitting the gym during that time, but any help is good help!
