The words "fast food" and "health" don't often appear in the same sentence unless "is bad for your" appears between them.
Though it does seem that New York's trans fat ban has made NYC's fast food less unhealthy.
Trans fats are very unhealthy and can lead to clogged arteries and more heart problems. Not to mention weight gain, which can lead to many other problems.
A nutrition specialist said:
"By making the default option the healthier choice, everyone benefits regardless of their nutrition awareness or willpower. The regulation may serve as a model for future successful public health initiatives."
People shouldn't have more than 2 grams of trans fat a day, so NYC made sure restaurants couldn't have more than 0.5g of trans fat per serving in their food.
Along with their soda ban, it seems like NYC is quickly becoming one of the healthier cities in the country!
Way to go, New York!
